PRODUCTION PROTOCOLS
1. Fields must be soil tested for nutrients and fertilized for wheat production as recommended by the University of Georgia Extension Best Management Practices found at http://www.caes.uga.edu/commodities/fieldcrops/gagrains/wheat.html
2. Control weeds. a. Un-wanted plants (wild onions, wild turnips, other small grain crops, etc.) whose seed are inseparable from the contracted crop must be controlled by roguing (hand-pulling) or pesticides. Weed control with herbicides is best when the weeds are small. b. Control ryegrass with an appropriate herbicide when it is between the two leaf to two tiller stage. c. Fields will be monitored by GSDC personnel for weed infestations and if troublesome weed populations are deemed too high, appropriate control measures will be required.
3. Control insects. a. Scout fields early for hessian fly and aphids and apply approved insecticide if threshold levels are reached. b. Fields will be monitored by GSDC personnel for insect infestations and if troublesome insect populations are deemed too high, appropriate control measures will be required.
4. Control foliage diseases. a. Apply an appropriate fungicide at heading for maximum seed quality and yield. b. Fields will be monitored by GSDC personnel for disease infestations and if yield/seed quality reducing diseases are deemed too high, appropriate control measures will be required.
