General Scope of Position - Executive Director The Executive Director assumes responsibility for the day-to-day management and ongoing business of the Commission, including industry outreach, finances and administration, program management and business development. These responsibilities are carried out according to policy and guidelines established by the Commission. This individual should be comfortable in communicating and professionally administering agreements with GSDC clientele and business partners. The position requires some in state travel and occasional out of state travel. The Executive Director serves at the pleasure of the Commission.
General Responsibilities •Maintain a commission office in Athens, Georgia and oversee a branch at Plains, Georgia. •Represent GSDC in communication and outreach to industry, University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the University of Georgia Research Foundation, The Georgia Crop improvement Association, media and state government. •Manage GSDC’s financial matters. •Coordinate the planning of all GSDC meetings. •Guide and assist the Commission in development and implementation of strategic plans. •Foster opportunities for training and professional development of staff. •Implement Commission policies regarding processing and production of cultivars.
Specific Responsibilities •Hire, supervise and evaluate GSDC staff according to relevant Commission policies. •Manage the activities of the GSDC office, including: develop and present reports, develop and maintain standard operating procedures, develop publications and other documents supporting foundation seed production and distribution and development of necessary contracts. •Be responsible for the preparation and filing of all official Commission minutes and proceedings, tax reporting, non-profit reporting, maintenance of accountant relationships, bookkeeping, collection of funds, budgeting and financial account management and reporting. •Coordinate meetings of the Commission, including development of agendas and preparation of supporting information; develop decision alternatives as appropriate.
Roles •Ex officio non-voting member of the Commission. •Designated public spokesperson for GSDC.
